8 Things to Consider When Booking Your Perfect Wedding Venue

Did you know most wedding engagements take place over the winter holiday season? In fact, the most popular day to pop the question is Christmas when family and friends are around to share in the special moment. But after you’re done basking in the glow of the proposal and holiday festivities, it’s time to start planning your wedding and all the celebrations surrounding your special day. Whether you already have a clear vision of your ideal “I do” destination or are starting from scratch to shape the wedding of your dreams, below are eight key questions to ask yourself:

Location
Does the destination that you’re considering align with your vision? For instance, if you dream of an outdoor wedding, you’ll want to choose a destination and time of year where you can almost always count on ideal weather conditions.

Time of Year
Have you visited the destination the same time of year that you are planning to wed? This IS key. For example, PGA WEST and Greater Palm Springs in November is much different than May. It is well worth it to make an advanced visit to your destination/venue the same time of year so you can experience the climate in person and see the grounds (winter grass vs. summer grass is SO different), seasonal florals, scenery and greenery.

Does the Venue Reflect You?
Selecting a venue is often the most significant aspect of wedding planning. Take the time to consider and discuss what is important to you individually and as a couple. Is the vintage vibe your thing? Are you going for classic, casual, modern or offbeat? The style you decide on will affect all your aesthetic choices. Inside tip: check to see if there is a venue curfew or sound restrictions.

Lodging & Accommodations
Does the destination offer hotels, resorts and vacation rentals that are both convenient and affordable for your wedding guests? Inside tip: Check the area’s tourism bureau and/or wedding venues you are exploring to find out if there are any festival weekend or major sports tournaments during your preferred time frame as you will discover that hotel room rates can skyrocket during those periods and room availability is often limited.

Vendors
Be selective with your vendors. Do they have experience with destination weddings? Are they highly responsive and accommodating? Get recommendations and read reviews. Experienced wedding planners will also have a curated list of expert vendors for the destination.

Back-up Plan
Have you discussed your back-up plan? You should have one in place, especially if you are planning at all-outdoor wedding. You may have to pull permits in advance for a wedding tent or ensure that an interior space is available in the event of inclement weather.

Transportation
Is it easy to travel to your destination from different domestic and/or international locations? Is the airport convenient to your venue? What are ground transportation options for your guests? Will you be providing transportation or will they need car rental services? For example, PGA WEST is located only a 35-minute drive from Palm Springs International Airport (PSP). Twelve airlines offer non-stop flights to 30 destinations and connections to major hubs that service hundreds of cities worldwide.

Cost
What is the budget for your wedding? That is the million-dollar question.

Is your budget an absolute or can you be flexible? Be clear about what you are willing and able to spend so you don’t exceed your comfort level. Expert wedding planners are often worth their weight in gold as they can help you find creative, affordable solutions for wedding essentials, amenities, and little extras without breaking the bank.

Our wedding and events team at PGA WEST is delighted to answer all your questions because we’re passionate about helping you create the dream wedding you envision.

“PGA WEST is located in the heart of Greater Palm Springs with over 300 days of sunshine making it a premier wedding destination,” says Director of Sales Carly McGarry. “From surreal mountain backdrops to lush palm trees and captivating water views, PGA WEST offers it all.”
