I want to take the time to thank all participants who played in the 50th Annual Bob Hope Classic, the PGA WEST staff, and all the volunteers who made this event such a success! We all have a lot to be proud of as PGA WEST was showcased to the world. The phone calls and emails I have received have been overwhelmingly positive.
I sincerely want to thank the Members of PGA WEST for your support, attendance, and enthusiasm during this week. Without your involvement, whether as a participant, volunteer or fan, The Bob Hope Classic is not possible. What an exciting event and finish with Pat Perez knocking in for eagle on the last hole with just a bit more than a tap-in!
In addition, let me briefly re-cap some of the highlights of the week:
- MEMBER BADGES – Thanks to Davis Sezna, we were able to obtain an additional supply of badges for the Membership and Members were able to receive as many as four badges.
- DOUBLE TEE FORMAT – By all accounts, the pace of play on average was 4 to 4 1/2 hours daily. Reactions to both the double tee and shot-gun starts were positive with having more tee time access. On that note we played at 65% utilization which means there were plenty of unused times that were available.
- Jim McLean MEMBER CLINIC- Jim did a fantastic job on Sunday, January 18th and the event was well attended. We had approximately 175 people in attendance for the event. The complimentary cocktail was well received and a good number of Members and their guests made their way to Ernie’s to see the newly renovated clubhouse which opened Friday, January 16th.
- MEMBER RETAIL PROMOTION – The week long Member retail promotion was also well received and we were glad to see the Members supporting the brand this week.
- EQUIPMENT REMOVAL – The equipment, stands etc. used during The Hope were promised to be gone by the February 6th and were gone by February 3rd so I would like to thank the staff and Scott Easton from The Hope Office for his efficient work.
- RECIPROCITY PLAY– Again thanks to Davis Sezna, we were able to secure dozens of tee times to play at other locations during the week of The Hope. I am happy to report that nearly every request was fulfilled to Members in a lottery draw.
- MEMBERS ONLY GRANDSTANDS & BAR – We received very positive comments from Membership on the Member Only Stands that accommodated up to 250 Members. You truly had the best view of the approach shots from the fairway on Saturday and Sunday, even more so than the Hope Club stands.
- MEMBER ONLY TOURNAMENT – Fun was had by all in the Member tournament on Monday (same pin-placements as Sunday). Mr. James Murphy was Monday’s winner and Carl Schweizer was Tuesday’s winner. Congratulations Gentlemen!
- MEMBER APPRECIATION PARTY – The party was very well attended, by all accounts we had more than 500 Members attend. The band was fantastic with lots of dancing and again great comments came back from you that a good time was had by all.
I would like to take this time to congratulate Dean Miller, Director of Agronomy and his staff for spectacular course conditions. The comments from the PGA TOUR, the TOUR Agronomists, the TOUR Players, Celebrities, Amateurs and our PGA WEST Member participants have been incredibly positive.
I would also like to thank all the staff at PGA WEST (and sister course staff), who worked and participated in the week’s event. We received great comments about the experience and are already looking forward to make the 51st Bob Hope Classic even better!
This was a week to be proud of and enjoy the fun, golf and incredible exposure to the nation of our amazing property.
Thank you and we look forward to an exciting year at PGA WEST!
Sincerely,
Mike Kelly
Executive Director of PGA WEST
