2010 Bob Hope Classic Overview:

We had an amazing week and finished strong on all accounts.  It was great to see so many of you taking advantage of privileges as PGA WEST Members, rain or shine. 75% of Members picked up their badges this year to catch a glimpse of their favorite celebrity and witness a nail-biting win for Bill Haas. This is Haas' first PGA TOUR victory marking the third time in four years someone has made the Bob Hope Classic their first PGA TOUR win. Unknowingly to Bill, his Dad, Jay
was in the crowd following his round. Bill and Jay (1988) became the first father-son winners of The Hope.

Hope Square was more vibrant, had new and upgraded vendors, and was more interactive this year than ever.  The Hope organization and your PGA WEST Team worked well together to create an atmosphere and experience that we could all be proud of.

I want to thank Members for tuning into the week-long communication regarding the Hope as well as the non-tournament course conditions.  Your patience and cooperation for the cart path only requests and other cart restrictions were greatly appreciated. Over a (6) six day period, Golf Course Maintenance Crews moved close to 20 million gallons of water off the (9) nine PGA WEST / Citrus Club at La Quinta Resort golf courses. Due to the consistent rain, crews worked around the clock to not only protect your courses and  keep the tournament going, but to prepare your courses for play as quickly as possible.

Even when circumstances are perfect, hosting a national PGA TOUR event can be very challenging. However, when encountering an anomaly such as the weather front that hit La Quinta, the level of difficulty rises exponentially. With those challenges the true measure of a team shows itself quickly. I am proud to say your PGA WEST Staff rose to each challenge quickly and efficiently on each occasion.  After rain wiped out Thursday's play and threatened throughout Friday, the Bob Hope Classic was extended to Monday. This was the first time in 30 years that an entire day of play was cancelled due to unfavorable weather. Resources from PGA WEST, The Citrus Club, La Quinta Resort and Members all played a role during the week to ensure The Hope was a success.  This was a total team effort, and for me very much appreciated.

We HOPE you enjoyed the weekend as much as we did as the beautiful La Quinta weather broke through just in time for the final rounds. The Club established a standard that we will forever strive to improve upon as that is who we are and what we believe.

We look forward to an even bigger and better Bob Hope Classic at PGA WEST in 2011!

Sincerely,

Mike Kelly
Executive Director, The Club at PGA WEST
